From in-demand, pop songwriting genius to summery “All-American Girl“, Bonnie McKee is having herself a pretty stellar 2013. After penning chart toppers for artists including Britney Spears, Katy Perry, Adam Lambert and Cher, the solo pop singer is reminiscing on her troubled career the first time around with new track “Sleepwalker“.
With lines such as “I went to a bar, I felt nothing, I totaled my car, I felt nothing“, the artist is letting listeners into her past troubles with alcohol and apparently, pill popping. Supported by an infectious 80s-inspired electro-pop beat, the new release is anything but your typical party anthem. McKee gets extremely personal with the songwriting, which may be why her services are always so sought after.
If the catchy pop song is not enough for you, the artist also treats fans with a Halloween-inspired, zombie-infested, blood-soaked visual which would be a great spiritual sequel to Michael Jackson’s iconic “Thriller“. With the lead actress and McKee checking the undead with hockey sticks and sharing a passionate, closet room kiss, the video is just dark and haunting enough to give some background to the lyrics. The final scene is a cliffhanger as well!
McKee has found success penning numerous hits for other artists, but it’s nice to hear she hasn’t given away all of her gems. “Sleepwalker” has been released during the right time, Halloween fanatics will surely eat it up, but the song is a glittery, dance stomper that will stand nicely on its own.
