I almost overlooked this synth pop gem from Australian alt-pop band City Calm Down, as I was steered to believe that it was post punk fodder, but no, lead single “Sense Of Self” from the bands forthcoming “Movements EP” distinctly shows out in the way of Cut Copy, once in it’s stride.
The bubbling new-wave synths together, banded with a rousing chorus really does denote the converging of guitar lead / electronic music cross-over that continuously emerges from Australian indie pop music with aplomb in a hazy dream-woven fashion.
In the throws of Indietronica kin-ship with New Order, The Temper Trap and Pnau,“Sense Of Self ”impacts on a transitionary level of all three to deliver a sharp clique of synergy that from synth foundation upwards is buzzing.
