I am loving all this new music around at the moment from newcomer talents. In comparison to this time last year, I’d say there has been quite an abundance of it popping up through January. It is great to see in any case because I suspect many new artist launches were, pulled back or put on hold during 2020. I am feeling excited at the prospect of many more emerging pop acts breaking through this year. If I may put in a request, I think it would be super lovely to hear from singer-songwriters with some uniqueness to offer. I also think rising UK talent, Mimi Webb is going places while striking out, with authentic, wholly, original, efforts. I have been spellbound listening to the latest release, “Reasons.” It has an old school type of appeal but equally has a distinctive charm of its own.
The nineteen-year-old who hails from Canterbury, Kent has already had a track (“Before I Go“) pick up viral buzz on TikTok. Being thrust into the limelight could be a daunting place for an up-and-coming artist, but not for Mimi Webb. Her smokey voice is, well… smokey, startling, and soulful with a pinch of angel dust. I’d go so far to say the first time you heard Ellie Goulding kind of incredible. Being armed with a truly distinctive voice, you won’t forget in a hurry is a great asset. Yet is only one half of the story. Her confessional-style of songwriting is being picked-up on because of its unfiltered, emotive realness. You know the instant you hear Mimi sing, she’s got something quite rare and special, going on.
Current track “Reasons” is a song which represents loneliness. It talks about the broken parts and the flaws, most of us paper over with a smile or never properly deal with. We are all broken a little bit, we just don’t allow everyone to see that we are.
The music video while being stylish and high-end exudes cuteness. The clip serves to build intrigue about this artist. It has met the brief, If I am enthralled, I suspect I will not be alone in this. Mimi Webb is likeliest to become a little bit famous, quite, quick. (As in similar ways to Billie Eilish meets with Tate McRae kind of pop famous.)
