September was a key, month for album releases. And I found it a challenge to keep up with the increased flurry of activity. The good, thing about albums though, is having much more longevity. If you pick one up a month or two after it has come out, it is still regarded as being freshly baked from the oven. I had been intrigued by all the press I had been receiving about Indie-pop artist Gus Dapperton’s “Orca” album campaign. Nonetheless, my lateness in posting about Gus, boils down to me undecided about the music styles of the campaign singles, being relevant to EQ Music Blog. All along “Post Humorous” was the track I was most interested in, and to find Raj had slipped me a note registering his interest in this same track upon my return from annual leave. Got me thinking about it again.

I have since checked out “Orca,” no matter what, I am still stuck on “Post Humorous,” and have been trying to find a way to post about the track, while still being uber relevant. Thus I am ceasing the chance to finally hop on the “Post Humorous” appreciation fandom after receiving a press note about Gus’s live performance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

The track is one of the dreamiest cuts “Orca” has to offer. A wistful ode which Gus says was written as a reflection on dealing with death as a young child. If you hadn’t guessed “Orca” isn’t, a light- listen. It has been earning favour among critics because it dares to tackle dark themes and steps up with the indie songwriter sharing more of his vulnerabilities in this sophomore work. Dark and brooding it may be yet it is still reading high in the alt-pop stakes. In other words, it’s pretty damn infectious.

My thoughts about this live performance?…it shook me. I love it.
