Just as I anticipated, Olly Alexander has dropped another exciting track from his debut album “Polari,” which is set to debut on February 7th. What’s even more thrilling is that this new release is the album’s title track! Before speculation begins, let’s clarify why this piece has a concise length of just one minute and twenty-six seconds. The track “Polari” is intentionally crafted to capture the essence of the entire album in a brief yet impactful snapshot.
“This is track 1 on the album and is intended as a shot of adrenaline and jumpstart the car kind of introduction because I’m about to take you for a ride – it’s also a bit of an audio collage of all the music that follows so I’m very excited to put this out!” Olly reveals.
As showcased in the earlier singles “Dizzy” and “Cupid’s Bow,” the distinct influence of 80s and 90s music is unmistakably vibrant throughout the work. This trend continues with the title track. Translating an exuberant blend of electrifying dance beats and a rich tapestry of retro sound effects that have a distinctly American flair. The accompanying music video provides a mesmerizing time capsule, full of evocative visuals and sounds that truly transport me back to that iconic era. My excitement for the album is palpable. Moreover, particularly because these musical influences were the very soundtrack of my formative teenage years. Each note and beat resonates with me, plunging me into a state of sublime electro-pop bliss. With the album’s release on the horizon, I find myself eagerly counting down the days!
Despite its brief duration, Olly has crafted an electrifying video clip that perfectly complements this teaser-like release. Directed by Colin Solal Cardo, the dynamic visual places Olly in an exhilarating 80s video environment. One scene strikingly evokes the iconic warehouse dance sequence from Michael Jackson‘s “Beat It,” showcasing Olly in full choreographic form. Accompanied by a talented dance troupe adorned in edgy streetwear and bold punk-inspired makeup and hairstyles, the high-energy dance routine pulses with a frenetic energy that matches the fast-paced, montage-style soundtrack.
Similarly piqued with excitement for Olly Alexander’s era “Polari” as I am, take note of the below.
