While some readers might have expected me to dive straight into the newly unveiled UK Eurovision entry “Eins Zwei Drei” by the brilliantly eccentric synth-pop tinkerer Look Mum No Computer. I’ve decided to park that conversation for another day. Instead, I’m turning the spotlight toward a past Dutch Eurovision moment that quietly sparked the next chapter for one of its performers.
Back in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, LA-based Dutch singer-songwriter Mia Nicolai teamed up with Dion Cooper for the atmospheric duet “Burning Daylight”. While the Eurovision journey itself came with challenges, it proved to be a catalytic experience for Nicolai. Above all, one that helped shape the assured and expressive musician she’s continuing to evolve into today.
Fast forward to November 2025, when Mia unveiled her debut EP, ” Sharing “Space Among The Stars”. It’s a collection that leans into introspection and growth. One of its most striking highlights is the shimmering track “Nothing Compares To This Feeling”. From the first listen, I couldn’t help but notice the strong artistic echoes of Christine and the Queens. That same blend of emotional vulnerability and sleek synth-pop elegance runs through the song. And honestly, it only made me love it more.
Sharing more Mia explained: “Nothing Compares is about reconnecting with yourself—remembering who you are beneath layers of expectation and societal pressure”… “I imagine it playing while biking, running, or simply moving through the world. Let it be your reminder that when things feel dark, light always finds its way back in.”
The accompanying visual, directed by Joelle Taylor—whose past collaborators include Lisa, Teddy Swims and Charli XCX—captures that uplifting spirit perfectly. Seemingly set around Mia’s home, the video follows her as she warms up for a free-flowing session of movement and music, turning everyday spaces into a playground for expression. It’s carefree, intimate, and wonderfully relatable.
Ultimately, “Nothing Compares To This Feeling” lands as a quietly powerful reminder that rediscovering yourself doesn’t always require grand gestures. Sometimes it simply means pressing play, letting go, and dancing around the house like nobody’s watching. Exactly the kind of joyful rebellion pop music does best.
