We all have times in our lives that may be shiny, bright and full of happiness. Others, a dark side likes underneath their skin waiting to crawl out at the most inopportune times. It takes a very special person to learn to accept all aspects of your moments as described by the pop beauty Tove Lo in her latest video ‘Moments.’
Haunting and nerve shattering as through the video Tove Lo takes you through a depiction of murder committed under the influence of prescription medication. The introduction takes you into a psychologist’s office asking Tove “Why don’t you tell me in your own words, why you did what you did? Was it the narcotics? Were you unhappy? Was it him? Well then what was it?” enhancing the feel of brokenness that Tove’s character displays after acting out.
I can get a little drunk, I get into all the don’ts; the lyrics express as you’re sent straight into a flashback, a wrecked car (presumably wrecked due to being under the influence) as she dances her way into the local pharmacy to get her fix. Her blank stare shows a control from the addiction.
As the forlorn, percussion driven melody immerses you deeper into the dark story, you’re taken into her wedding day. It seems as all is cheery until BANG! Tove Lo shoots her husband to be.
It feels like in a very cinematic way, Tove Lo is expressing that dark moments can be hard to accept, and it’s not just your loved ones who need to accept you as a whole. It is ourselves who need to own up and accept all of our moments.
It’s as Ru Paul says “if you don’t love yourself, how in the hell can you love anybody else?”
