We became acquainted with the self-professed, The Queen of Clapham, Drag artist Tia Kofi while appearing on Season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. Memorably, she proved to be the meanest lip-sync assassin of the season 2 queendom before mama Ru instructed her to sashay away halfway through the series. Being that her Mel B snatch game wasn’t deemed spicey enough for Ru and the judges. Upon leaving the competition, she threw herself into a music career (outside of her involvement with, the girl group The Vixens). Releasing the Bright Light Bright Light penned, Gil Lewis produced track, “Loving Me Like That” she now adds to the success amassed by previous singles “Outside In” and “Look What You’ve Done”.
I only had to listen to the track for a matter of seconds before it became, obviously, noticeable that Bright Light Bright Light had written this song. The BLBL DNA is so strong. It is interesting to me that Rod would give this one away because I really would like to hear a twinkling Bright Light Bright Light full piano version of it (snippet here). Credit, where it is due. I also quite like that Tia Kofi snatched “Loving Me Like That” away as well. Vocally she owns it. Without a doubt, she has laid down her best vocals.
During her stint on Drag Race, she got pulled up by her runway looks and got the most scrutiny from the judging panel. Appearing in the Darius Shu (“Kiss Away” by Billy Cullum) directed clip for “Loving Me Like That” she’s, killer. Werking, her looks like a stun gun. Her beautyliciousness is stopping us in our tracks. By the way, on inspecting the video did I catch a glimpse of her with a mahoosive boombox in her hands, or was Tia Kofi just happy to see us? As I am enraptured by this single and video combined.
The track is taken from Tia Kofi’s upcoming debut EP, due for release in early September.
To celebrate the launch of the EP, Tia will be playing a special headline show at the Oslo Hackney on Tuesday September 7th. Tickets are available now from https://www.alttickets.com/tia-kofi-tickets
