It’s been a quieter few months for REYNA. A quieter few months for most music artists, as a matter of fact. I feel pretty, certain, the sister duo had intended to share many music releases this year, (they’ve still, shared three.) Yet, similarly, as most music acts have, have had to take a step back from implementing their plans. During April, they brought us a taste of Mexico, while celebrating their Latin heritage on their vibrant track “Coachella.” Today REYNA share “Lonely Girl.” A track, written about the isolating & paralyzing feeling of social anxiety.
REYNA chose to speak up on this topic because Gab has experienced some of these feelings
She says, “Last year I struggled with the worst social anxiety and panic attacks. (I had never experienced anything like it before.) It was so hard to be around people and to communicate how scary it felt to be out at a bar or do something simple like go out to dinner. I felt so alone and misunderstood, and like I would never be the same. I’m not. The worst part was feeling like I was letting the people around me down because I just couldn’t be myself. Everyone would tell me it would be okay, but it didn’t feel like it, and that would make me isolate more. I am doing so much better today. Even though this year has had its challenges. Dancing like a “Lonely Girl” in my room has made me feel like everything is going to be alright even if just for a little bit.”
How brave of Gab to share her story. I feel positive that in doing so, Gab’s honest account of her experiences will have been helpful to someone else.
The video shot by the sisters themselves shows them on a explore through their neighbourhood on a sunny day. They appear carefree enjoying, some ‘me’ time. Taking a bike ride and skateboarding down the leafy streets near to where they live. I must say, with this organic style of footage, they are bringing to notice some lovely skills from behind the camera. I actually appreciate this home-styled, DIY clip more. Because a whole lot of feeling, and love has been poured into it’s making. I identify with their dedication to creating art, especially at this time. REYNA is giving us superb, indie-pop grooves as always.
