Well, looky here. It seems that I haven’t been the only someone, enamoured with Raissa’s sweetly, alluring vocals. (I have written about the newcomer’s debut releases “Bullying Boys” and “ANGEL ENERGY“, not so long ago.) The much-acclaimed DJ, singer, songwriter, and record producer Mark Ronson himself, is not only a fan. He’s also signed Raissa to his Zelig Record label. Where she follows in the footsteps of breakout artist King Princess. BOOM. There sure has been some swift work going on behind the scenes, like when did this inking happen? More importantly, how amazingly quick has the labels newest acquisition been swung into action. Mark and Raissa have just unleashed a track. It’s a cover of “I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight” by Richard and Linda Thompson. (Don’t worry I had no clue either.)

Speaking to Radio One DJ Annie Mac, where the track was unveiled as Hottest Record In The World. Mark revealed it’s a song he couldn’t stop listening to during the first weeks of being in lockdown.

“For me, it’s the ultimate song about a messy weekend night out. All the weird but wonderful human interactions that go down. Not knowing what might happen once you head out that front door. Maybe a little hookup, a good time, even a hint of danger. But whatever it is, you know you’re going to forget about the boredom and stresses of everyday life for a few hours. I imagine the reason I’ve been so drawn to this song is that I miss that all, very much,” Ronson further added on his socials.

Ronson’s, comfort playing of the track, spiralled into an idea of recording it. With the help of fans sending in pics and vids of their cities at night, director Jamie-James Medina along with producer Sasha Nixon, meshed the footage together fashioning a nocturnal, nightscape lit by moonbeams, the stars at night and city street lights. You know what else, the production on this, (by Mark Ronson of course,) is sparkling and twinkling with shimmer. Standing worlds apart from his more usual 40 top smash hits. I like with this cover, he takes a step back, focusing on graceful, exquisite beat-making. As for Raissa’s part in this. Her voice has charmed me, once more. Such talent. With this new signing, intrigued more than ever, as to where it will take her next.
