I have really enjoyed watching Griff and Sigrid tease their new track “Head On Fire” with super cute posts online these past few weeks. In these posts, I have noticed a beautiful friendship between the two pop princesses, blossoming. I love to see it! I think the ladies realised January is tough going for many of us. Dropping off their tune halfway through it is a little reward from them for staving off the January Blues. Last night “Head On Fire” had its first airplay on BBC Radio 1 – “Future Sounds” programme. In the coveted slot for “Hottest Record In The World“.
When I tuned in for the premiere, a strange feeling of deja vu overwhelmed me. It was around this time last year when GRIFF released her killer track “Black Hole” on the very same show, again as Hottest Record In The World.
From the various snippets these two pop cuties have shared, I formed the impression “Head On Fire” would likeliest be an empowering anthem. Griff and Sigrid didn’t disappoint, they came through with exactly that. The big rousing melody sounds like a wake-up call to the music industry. Saying, open the new music floodgates it is now time to let the new tunes flood out.
The track isn’t lyrically deep, this time it doesn’t need to be. “Head On Fire” is a song about crushing on someone so much, that you can’t stop thinking about them. Griff and Sigrid wrote the track after they met at the Rueben Selby show at Fashion Week in London.
“We went to the studio a while later and just had a day of talking about life, before writing “Head On Fire”. It’s about that feeling when you meet someone who just flips everything upside down and you can’t focus on anything else but that person”, Sigrid explains.
They also dropped off a video for the track. Again there is no big storyline to it, but Sigrid and Griff get up to all sorts of mischievous high jinx. See them in an empty venue, getting dressed up in cute outfits. Why have a friendly water fight when there are fire extinguishers near and handy? Isn’t that right girls?…
