I woke up on this Wednesday morning to find my Twitter timeline littered with tweets about Cub Sport’s new video for “Hawaiian Party.” My day began on a very bright note seeing so many positive messages of support for the visual, written and directed by twin duo Ethan and Grayson Dolan (the American YouTube/Vine sensations.) I already knew this film clip was very special to the band as they had been excitedly talking about it online for a while. I think, however, all concerned were overwhelmed by the response it was getting. Clocking up over a million views just a few hours after the release. I was pretty choked-up reading countless retweets from the band, sharing many of the wonderful reactions from fans and the LGBTQ+ community.
“Hawaiian Party” is a track from the band’s splendid album “BATS” which we had a burning curiosity about for quite a while. We made it our mission to find a little bit more about this track, in particular, Raj snapped up the chance to Interview Tim Nelson and Sam Netterfield of the band when in London earlier this year. (Check out the full interview here)
The Dolan twins directed video follows a number, of young people as they head out on their way to a house party. They each find an inner-confidence within themselves to seek out a special someone to get cosy with. It is a truly heartwarming visual love is love, story, which marries up in a very, beautiful union with the dreamy, melodic style of the song. The Cubbies have such a gentle and tenderness about them, the video suits in with their personality, most excellently.
By far, the reactions to this video on Twitter are the loveliest I have EVER read, inspirational, courageous and brave. It has made people comfortable to come out to family and friends. Oh my, my, my if this isn’t the most beautiful thing to happen because of the power of a song and it’s music video. A tremendous achievement on the part of the Cubbies and an awesome wedding gift for the newly married Tim and Sam. Congratulations on your recent nuptials – Love EQ
Londoners can next catch Cub Sport live, supporting Aurora at O2 Forum Kentish Town 11th October (ticket details here.)
