Don’t think for one minute that Tove Lo’s debut EP “Truth Serum” has warn off on us in the slightest, on the contrary in addition to our fixation with the gorgeously off-kilter pop potent track “Not On Drugs”, we’ve not deviated in our opinion that Tove’s introspective brand of alt-pop is nothing but especially brilliant.
The hype first formed around “Habits” last year and was the breakthrough that took Tove Lo from session singer and songwriter to upcoming artists like Icona Pop, to notice-ability within the pop arena in her own right.
“Habits” which explores a narrative of loosing out on love and dealing with the emotional bereavement by getting a high through the comfort of food and drink, is wholly identifiable given the circumstances. The underlying ambience of anguish and heartache is given to the track through a tone of melodious escapism that threads together accentuated percussive elements interspersed with an orchestral overlay as the chorus kicks in.
As innovative still as it first was a year ago, and marking the occasion that “Habits” is now forming part of the “Truth Serum EP”, it receives a new video treatment.
Tove is still attempting not to spiral down into a food coma of despair on a night out with friends, however without the numbing addition of booze, nicotine and snogging everybody that comes within a face width’s of her, Tove’s firmly strapped on the bereaved relationship rollercoaster ride.
Incidentally upcoming in Tove Lo’s gig itinerary are 4 UK dates for anyone who fancies what promises to be a good pop night out.
