I do love an upbeat track with a strong message resonating from the lyrics. A good fit has been sitting in my inbox. “Guillotine” by Ci Majr, is a track rooted in buzzy electronic beats. Replete with a sparkly melody. The gem among the undiscovered you’ve been searching for. It is also a very significant release for the singer-songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist artist Ci Majr. It is the aim of Chicago raised Ci to make music that radiates authenticity, relatability & the potential to touch the hearts of millions. “Guillotine” with it’s somewhat dark and sinister connotations, is definitely a good sticking in the mind kind of word. And particularly good at building intrigue before reaching for the play button.
A passage from the press release (below) gives some good insight into the backstory of the track.
Entirely self-written, ‘Guillotine’s’ inspiration came to Ci Majr (Ciara Adkins) during the peak of the political tensions in the US back in 2020. When engaging in conversation, between family and friends, she noticed that things seemed to be going round in circles with nobody really listening, quickly realising that people’s egos were what was getting in the way of any meaningful communication and understanding. Taking this concept and expanding it to include romantic relationships, Ci Majr wrote “Guillotine” as a response, learning a lot about herself in the process.
Oh wow, I am loving how direct, Ci Majr is with her lyricism. Her, no holds barred approach is necessary when broaching such challenging subject matter. It’s a song about achieving balance from getting your voice heard and making sure to be mindful of listening to the opinions of others at the same time. The wonderful thing about being human is that we each have our own thoughts and ideas. But we have to be open to accepting that we arrive at the best outcomes in life when we take lots of different views on board, not by being stubborn minded. Ci Majr puts this point across in the track”Guillotine” with clarity and power. A track that worms its way into your brain and won’t let go.
