Recently, on the blog, you may have noticed me discussing the release of the new Foxes album “The Kick” (where I highlighted tracks “Sister Ray” and “Sky Love“. Following a string of excellent single releases, the album is finally available everywhere. In fact, (even though I have heaps of other music to listen to), I was tuning into “The Kick” a lot over the weekend. Foxes’ teaser singles and a statement about the third album release greatly encouraged me. “This record feels like a new start and the ability to come back to life after such a strange time of us all being alone,” she said.
“The record was written during the lockdown. It comes from a place of wanting to escape the walls of my own apartment. I wrote it imagining freedom and dancing and people being able to hold each other again.” Foxes announced.
An album where there are no skips is rare. “The Kick” is just too good and has a great flow throughout. The whole album shines. There is no need to jump about with the tracklisting. “The Kick” is one of those albums where every song is a hit. I would go so far to say this is a career-defining album.
The latest song highlighted from “The Kick” is “Growing On Me“.
Giving some insight into the track, Foxes says it is “about becoming more connected and comfortable with yourself – a journey of discovering yourself and embracing both the dark and the light.”
Once again, Florence Kosky steps up as director of the music video. The theme is floral dreams. An appropriate choice, considering the track’s title. Foxes has always been a vision of loveliness, but even more so in this clip. I feel intoxicated by floral perfume notes just by looking. The beautiful pop music soundtrack gives me a sense of transcendence, an intoxicating breath of love and optimism. It feels, looks and erupts into a whirlwind of sweet sensations.
