It really doesn’t matter how much time elapses between her music releases. The lovely, comforting thing about Dido is if there are ever changes in her style, these are incredibly subtle. The power of beautiful songwriting is always at the heart of what she does. If I am being totally honest I much prefer these dreamiest of Dido songs when they are served up with a music video. As such, I had been pinning my hopes on a visual for the upcoming “Still On My Mind” album lead-in track “Friends” to arrive. However, it seems there were other plans afoot and the honour of first video accompaniment for the “Still On My Mind” album falls to heartbreak pop track “Give You Up” instead.
In truth, I am mightily relieved that this video release happened today as I really needed to listen to a soothing song such as “Give You Up“, being that I am feeling a little out of sorts with a nasty dose of influenza. However, I also really wanted something to help take my mind off feeling horribly below par. This song has helped to ease and relax me. Which to be fair, is wholly attributable to engaging with Dido’s always gently, calming voice.
The “Give You Up” video is the second big release for director Sophie Muller, following on from “Handmade Heaven” by MARINA which was unleashed only a few days ago. Sophie’s work with Dido beautifully captures the singer in her quietest of moments, when she is caught reflecting upon a relationship which ran its course. There is a lovely reassurance in Dido’s beaming smile which feels so welcoming and delightful. It is an image which represents positive light and energy. I don’t know how she does it but has Dido ever looked so lovely? She is glowing. What a vision.
I am so glad I didn’t jump head-first in and write about this track before this visual clip arrived, to be served a video of this calibre is all I could have hoped for and more.
We are quite proud of the fact that we had the opportunity to interview this delightful lady some years ago when she celebrated the release of her “Greatest Hits” collection. We thought it would be nice to share it again.
