Up-and-coming singer-songwriter Etham from Reading is a young chap we first caught up with during last year’s British Summer Time festival held in Hyde Park. He was on the bill with headliner Justin Bieber, which was a very prestigious spot to grab. Wholly indicative, that the emerging artist was on the cusp of some very, exciting times ahead. Including thus far, achieving his ambition of realising his debut EP “Control” by way of scooping up support from Shawn Mendes, who recently revealed himself to be a fan. Signing with Virgin EMI. I’m sure you will agree with me, it’s been an eventful year for the young talent.
Having been introduced to Etham’s soulful track “Cold Love” last year, I didn’t think it would be the last time we spoke about him on EQ Music Blog. I was right. He has returned with a record deal and a new single “Future” which thankfully leaves, much of Etham’s emotively raw and organic sound he has been building during his short period as an independent releasing artist, uncompromised. The singer has a knack for making songs which are smart, stirring and soulful. His soaring vocals both deeply moving, and sweetly captivating. “Future” is characterised by flawless melodic sensibilities with the strongest accent being on Etham’s breathtaking voice and heartfelt lyrics.
They may have scaled up the production level on the track, this only serves to glorify the singer’s soulfully honed vocals all the more. It’s a confident and promising step forward where the newcomer’s ability to match an astute grasp of aesthetics and a deep sense of emotion leaves a tantalising taste of what’s to come. And the music video, well it’s a heartstring-tugging love story which most people, will be able to form, their own personal affinity with.
Remember, this is just the beginning of what is likely to prove a landmark year for the newcomer, firmly positioning himself as one of 2018’s brightest new hopefuls. Don’t let the newcomer status fool you, fans of soulful, emotive pop really should get invested in Etham now.
