This summer marked the exciting release of “Dear Matthew,” the debut album from Australian queer singer-songwriter TIN. This remarkable body of work delves into the vibrant and often tumultuous world of partying from a distinctly gay perspective. Throughout the album, TIN vividly captures the exhilarating highs of hedonistic partying—moments filled with joy, freedom, and unapologetic self-expression. While also addressing the sombre lows that can accompany such experiences, reflecting on themes of loneliness, low esteem and longing.
“I wanted this album to be about my experience of entering the world of partying and what it’s been like fully immersed in it. I would often find myself chasing an empty high just to fill a void or hopelessly falling in love because it felt like I didn’t deserve any better. Most of the songs are in response to growing up feeling inadequate because of things that were out of my control.” TIN explains.
TIN’s commitment to authentic representation shines brightly in this project. With every track, he invites listeners to join him on a journey that is as much about celebration as it is about personal reflection. The underlying message is clear: for TIN, authenticity is not negotiable; it’s the very foundation of his artistry. If he cannot create from a place of truth, he would rather not engage at all. “Dear Matthew” is not just an album; it’s a heartfelt testament to the complexity of the human experience, particularly within the LGBTQ+ community.
Unveiling his latest creation, “Fuego,” is an unabashed celebration of the party and play lifestyle. This electrifying Latin-inspired track perfectly captures the essence of carefree moments and vibrant energy. “Fuego” offers a striking contrast to TIN’s earlier single, the deeply emotional “Dear Matthew,” marking a bold transition from heartfelt ballad to lively anthem that radiates playful authenticity.
However, amidst its electrifying rhythms and carefree vibes, “Fuego” also thoughtfully reminds listeners of the importance of enjoying these moments responsibly, encouraging a balance between fun and mindfulness in social settings.
