For this blog feature, imagine it’s 2010 (it’s really not too long ago). Can I also ask our readers, have you ever heard of Gypsy & the Cat? They are an Australian indie-pop duo that debuted with their single “Time To Wander” back in 2010. It was a dreamy and blissful song that introduced us to Xavier Bacash and Lionel Towers‘ unique sound. Ultimately, their debut album “Gilgamesh,” was a masterpiece, filled with shimmering pop tracks that we still love today.
One of the coolest things to happen to the duo was when they supported Kylie Minogue on her “Aphrodite” tour. It’s always amazing to see two musical acts come together like that. Sadly, Gypsy & the Cat went on hiatus in 2016 and Xavier and Lionel went on to pursue their own solo projects.
But wait, this isn’t the end of the Gypsy & the Cat story! It’s always a treat when a beloved band makes a comeback. They’ve snuck back into the scene and released a new track called “Dust” as GATC. Plus have other exciting news to share.
I’m not entirely certain about the specifics of their solo projects, but I do know that Xavier and Lionel have effortlessly returned to their Gypsy & the Cat style. The cool, dreamy soundscape that defines chillwave music is still very much present in their latest release, “Dust.” Listening to it, you’d never guess that they had ever taken a break. They even released a delightful music video for the song, which Lionel directed himself.
At last, the news I promised to share! After, 12 long years since its release, the duo’s debut album “Gilgamesh” is finally pressing vinyl editions. I’m so excited about this, and I’m sure many fans out there are as well. Therefore, a Kickstarter campaign to fund the project was set up, and it looks like they’ve already reached their goal. But don’t worry, you can still reserve your own copy of “Gilgamesh” now if you want to get your hands on it as soon as possible.
