I haven’t always loved the music of Sam Smith. Although I’ve written about Sam countless times on this blog, I have struggled to connect with the songs apart from noticing stunning vocals. Genuinely, I preferred the vibes when collaborating with Lawrence brother duo Disclosure the best. Together with last Christmases cover of the legendary Donna Summer disco smash, “I Feel Love.” Made me more excited about Sam Smith, than I had felt in a long time. Announcing their third studio album, “Love Goes” by sharing lead-in track “Diamonds” the singer has said. “Every album I make I want to get a bit closer to myself, feel more connected to myself… (via Instagram.) By the promise of those words. I think this is the era I’ve been craving all along.

The look of joy spread across Sam’s face while tackling an intricate dance routine depicted in the Luke Monaghan directed video is noticeably heart-warming, infectious. The sense of freedom and abandon is palpable. “Diamonds” is one up from Sam’s usual ballads efforts. Mid-tempo pop, slow-burning disco beats teamed with the singer’s unmistakable soulful tugging vocals. Although not adventurous, there really isn’t much to dislike here other than to fill up on some very, pleasant feel-good vibes.

The album tracklist has revealed we have a Sam team up with Labrinth to look forward to on the title track of the release. Possible earmarked as the next single methinks.
