They return with the gloriously escapist new single “Dance the Pain Away,” alongside the long-awaited reveal of their debut album “Big Disgrace”, due out March 13, and the announcement of their signing with Atlantic Records. Truly wondrous news for Haute & Freddy’s ever-growing royal court. A moment worthy of pure rejoice and unabashed merriment.
And merriment is exactly the destination Haute & Freddy are forever chasing. The duo have built their world for the misfits, the outsiders, the freaks and the fabulously different — those who don’t quite belong anywhere else. Their “royal court” is a space free of shame or fear, where individuality reigns supreme. Judging by the duo’s rapid ascent, this sense of belonging is not only welcome, but deeply needed.
“‘Dance The Pain Away’ is a feeling we’ve been dreaming of capturing in a song,” Haute & Freddy share. “That bustling street, grime of the city, crowded dance floor, ready-to-forget-the-world kind of feeling.” It’s an ethos that pulses through every beat of the track.
Mining rich ’80s nostalgia, “Dance the Pain Away” leans fully into the decade’s most danceable instincts. Glossy synths, propulsive rhythms and an unshakably euphoric chorus collide in a feel-good release designed for communal escape. The refrain, “What’s in your heart / What’s in your way / Why don’t we dance the pain, dance the pain away,” feels tailor-made for sweat-soaked dance floors and late-night abandon.
The accompanying music video expands the duo’s theatrical universe, depicting Haute & Freddy and their courtiers emerging from a rehearsal room. They are practising a lavish dance routine in preparation for spectacular shenanigans ahead. It’s a fitting visual prelude to their upcoming festival appearances, including Treefort Music Fest, Lightning in a Bottle, and Hinterland Music Festival.
