Brits Awards week is a weird time for new music releases. Not that much happens, and streaming of past hits spikes. This weeks Official UK Chart positions will undoubtedly reflect this. While celebrating the achievements of British pop artists is on everyone’s mind. I think it is the perfect time to look at pop from over the pond. The Brazilian global pop superstar Anitta is impacting hard in the USA, but has yet to make waves here in the UK. Similarly, I haven’t been keen to write about her yet because the music doesn’t fit our brief (on this blog). The track “Boys Don’t Cry” sees her going down a different route that is more European pop appealing.
Let’s take a look at “Boys Don’t Cry“.
Truthfully speaking. It would be a shame if Anitta were to erase her Latin heritage in her music in order to gain international recognition. I concur that the move made with “Boys Don’t Cry” is part of the course. Maybe it was her plan all along to release something seemingly fitting of what Ava Max produces. This being my instant thoughts about “Boys Don’t Cry” upon first hearing the track. Even Anitta’s vocal seems impregnated to full effect with Ava Maxness. With all being said, my hope with “Boys Don’t Cry” is that Anitta is cutting loose and having a bit of fun. The music video is quite the production, again feels like something I would also expect to see from Ava Max.
For the track to hit it off here, Anitta really needs to come over to Europe and do some promotion. I expect new label Warner Records are already on this. Upon releasing her debut album for Warner Records, she promises a varied mix of English, Spanish, and Portuguese spoken songs. There is hope the rest of Europe catches on soon to Anitta yet. The English-language track “Boys Don’t Cry” is an attempt to get her a greater audience on this side of the pond. It seems she’s covered all bases with the information about her upcoming album I received, even if liftoff elsewhere doesn’t happen.
