There is nothing worse in the world than losing the people you love. A void becomes deep within your soul. You may scream out, attempt to cover the pain with everything you have, or struggle to face the day. For Jake Quickenden, that was a sad reality when he lost his 19 year old brother to bone cancer in 2012. Four grueling years later, he has channeled that pain into a song we all can understand and find comfort in those trying times entitled ‘Blindfold.’

This is maybe on top of the hardest videos to watch. The pain is so raw and you can feel every little bit of heartache that Jake Quickenden has for losing his brother from the same exact disease they lost their father from. Prepare a tissue box. You’re going to need it.

Yet, Jake does not want us to feel sorry for him by any means. We caught up with him at his EP launch party to peer into his world creating ‘Blindfold.’ Check it below.

The continuous focus on the stages of grief that Jake expresses just rip at your insides. Alone in a flat, a smoke, a drink, pure anger. He does anything he can to numb the reality of his loss. He sits down and throws the clutter of his life away. Next thing you know, he channels that sadness into song.  Through a gentle acoustic guitar melody the video becomes living expression of what it probably took to write ‘Blindfold’. We all have been there. We lose the ones we love, but it’s always quite nice to see that there is someone out there that understands the hell we go through when they leave us for the other side.

Cancer sucks. It takes too many beautiful people. Though, by sharing Ollie’s story through song Jake Quickenden has done something quite special. His brother’s legacy now lives forever. That’s the true story of brotherly love.
