It was hardly surprising that the latest banger from Kim Petras, the track “Alone” with Nicki Minaj, was one of the hottest new entries on the Official UK Top 40 Charts last Friday. Since Kim went hardcore when teasing the bop during the build-up to the release. The heat on this release further increased, especially when Nicki Minaj was announced as a featured artist on the track. Although in the end, the exercise was a little unnecessary. Where-upon the first tease of the Kim and Nicki, Alice Deejay “Better Off Alone” sampled anthem, once again, the iconic hook was already firmly stuck in everyone’s, heads. Therefore, on a personal note and with those reasons in mind. I have craved the video release. Simply because I had the idea Kim would slay hard.
Since arriving, the rainbow-coloured Arrad-directed clip does not disappoint. In the video, Kim pays homage to 2000s club classics, including, Eric Prydz’s “Call On Me,” Alex Gaudino’s “Destination Calabria,” and Fedde Le Grand’s “Put Your Hands Up For Detroit“. Furthermore, all of which provided iconic music videos as well.
Also, craftily sneaked into the “Alone” music video clip, there is a teeny bit of product endorsement. This acts as further proof of Kim Petras’s escalating mega-pop stardom.
With “Alone” using a familiar dance track as a sample, it makes total sense to also replicate iconic club classic music videos. A thought that was unimaginable when Kim started out in her bubblegum-pop era. However, I applaud whoever thought to bring Nicki on board. Her rap on a verse certainly gives the reimagined club classic an extra dimension.
Since David Guetta and Bebe Rexha and their banger “I’m Good” (Blue) have exited the top 40. Therefore, with one other massively sampled offering out of the way, there is ample room for “Alone” to sizzle further up the music charts this week.
