When Tsatsamis released “Angelina“ in April as part of the “Tsycophant” mixtape, it immediately felt like one of those songs destined to linger. While the project has gradually unfolded through atmospheric visuals for “Recreational“ and a captivating HOWL Worldwide live performance of “Think About You“. There was still one obvious omission. The fan favourite had yet to receive the full visual treatment. As it turns out, Tsatsamis was simply playing the long game.
That patience has paid off beautifully. Directed by Sam Taylor-Edwards, the official video for “Angelina” finally arrives at a moment when the release schedule has eased up. No blockbuster Madonna album, no surprise Charli XCX single dominating the conversation. A perfect opportunity for an independent artist to command some well-earned attention. And with a song as compelling as “Angelina,” the spotlight feels entirely deserved.
I noted when previously blogging the track:
“Above all, as for the title, don’t get too literal. While Angelina Jolie might come to mind, the song plays more on the idea of an untouchable, intoxicating figure—someone whose presence alone unravels you. Lyrically, Tsatsamis taps into the ache of a one-sided connection, where desire, together with distance, blur into frustration: wanting more, getting less, and questioning everything in between”.
Seemingly my interpretation doesn’t seem to fall short of the mark. Rather than focusing on romance in a conventional sense, the video explores the painful lengths people go to in pursuit of acceptance. Framed around a cleverly executed casting couch scenario. The story captures the sense of desperation that makes someone try to mould themselves into someone else’s ideal. It’s an unsettling, cringy watch at times, not because it relies on shock value, but because its emotional honesty cuts remarkably close to home. Sam Taylor-Edwards allows every uncomfortable pause and lingering expression to speak volumes.
This is exactly the sort of visual that reminds me why I love championing emerging pop talent. It doesn’t just add another layer to the song—it deepens its emotional impact. Thus transforming an already magnetic track into a cinematic experience that refuses to let go. Sometimes the wait is absolutely worth it! “Angelina” is living proof that the strongest visuals arrive precisely when they’re ready to say something meaningful.
