MUNA were by far one of the best highlights for us at SXSW this year. Their energetic and high-octane performance left quite an impression with us after seeing them live for the first time.

To be honest, I haven’t been that invested in MUNA’s music, however after Mandy, our new artists manager, proclaimed their single “I Know A Place” to be “glorious” and “distinctive” my ears perked up a bit. The fact that they bring a sort of The Bangles meets Beth Ditto sound in debut album “About U” was also a big factor in persuading me to download the album and enjoying it for myself. What I found in MUNA was a bit unexpected and ultimately “About U” is one of the best “girl power” albums I’ve heard in a long time.

So for me, it was NO QUESTION when it came to tagging one of MUNA’s shows at SXSW as a must-see event. I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed and MUNA quite easily delivered there. Seeing “I Know A Place”, “Loudspeaker” and “Crying On The Bathroom Floor” performed live at Twix’s showcase at Bangers was so much fun.

You wouldn’t normally have me pegged at being front-row at a MUNA rock show, but fucking hell – I had so much fucking fun.
