If I’m being 100% honest, the real draw for me to go and see the world premiere of The Last O.G. was easily Tiffany Haddish.

Hey, when one of Hollywood’s rising stars decides to make an appearance at SXSW and the world famous Paramount Theatre in Austin, there really is no other choice but to go and support her latest television project. Cancel everything else on the SXSW Go schedule and make sure you got a spot in the queue to watch this special television premiere event. You know if Tiffany Haddish in it, it’s going to be funny. After making me laugh in Girls Trip and being the best part of the Oscars this year, one can’t deny that “The Last Black Unicorn” author is most definitely on fire.

So what is The Last O.G. all about? Well, comedy king Tracy Morgan is back. This time, he plays an ex-con whom after spending the last 15 years in jail, gets released. When he finds out that his old neighbourhood in Brooklyn has been gentrified and it’s quite the “hood” it used to be, let’s just say that it takes a little bit of adjusting to get used to – and it’s pure comedy gold. The last of the remaining “original gangsters” must find what work he can as a barista to impress his main squeeze, played by Haddish, who has moved on to a new life, a new man, posh digs and has had a few well-adjusted children along the way.

After seeing the first two episodes of “The Last O.G.” I was absolutely howling with laughter. I think you’ll be too once you see what all the hype is about. The writing is superb, the cast is as perfect as it can be and it’s evident that the show-runner, executive producer Jordan Peele, along with Morgan, but a lot of heart and soul into this project. I can’t wait to start adding this to my TV schedule when it debuts on TBS on April 3rd.

Leave it to SXSW and Janet Pierson’s film team to find the best new episodic programs every year – it’s just as great as their film programming. By choosing “The Last O.G.” as one of their world premieres this year, it’s proof-positive why their film festival is world-class, constantly going from strength-to-strength and totally worth the badge price.
