To be honest, we knew absolutely nothing about Andrew Applepie before seeing him on the program for SXSW this year. However, as we tend to favour any act that is listed as electronic pop on the festival lineup, we thought it would be a good idea to check him out this year. The gig was at The Iron Bear too, which just so happens to be one of our favourite low-key music venues/gay bars in Austin, so if anything, a fun night out with beers and bears just seemed like the most obvious thing to do that night.

To our surprise, Andrew Applepie’s set was quite good – check out our highlights video below.

It seems Andrew Applepie is still a little bit of a mystery online after doing our homework. He seems more of a music YouTuber than a proper emerging pop star, but in today’s digital world, that’s not necessarily a bad thing at all. He’s a proper nerd too and we like that. Maybe a bit quiet, shy and unassuming. We like that too. Here’s a little video we found which basically explains who he is in a nutshell.

After checking out his catalogue on Spotify and picking out our favorite tracks below, Andrew Applepie is proving to be a great new discovery for us. He’s got that whole boy Robyn thing going on a bit and it’s no secret that the dude knows his way around a electronic synthy gadgets pretty well too. His music is warm and atmospheric and a bit spacey. We dig it. Apropos for hot summer nights and cold winter days.

Curious about Andrew Applepie – you should be…
