There’s something deliciously fitting about hearing Adam Lambert’s newest single “Eat U Alive,” while basking beneath Mediterranean sunshine, a ruby red Tinto de Verano in hand and not a single cloud interrupting the endless blue horizon. Because much like those hazy, heat-soaked evenings I recently spent abroad, the track arrives wrapped in atmosphere, temptation and a pulse of escapist drama. And likewise, with this first taste of his forthcoming album “ADAM”, Lambert wastes absolutely no time reminding us why his brand of theatrical electro-pop remains utterly irresistible.
The electrifying track serves as the first taste of Lambert’s forthcoming sixth studio album, “ADAM”, arriving July 10 via his own label More is More and distributed by The Orchard. While the independent label set-up marks a fresh chapter professionally. Musically, it sees Adam reconnecting with the darkly seductive pop/rock and alt-electro energy that first made so many of us fall head over heels for his artistry in the early noughties.
What makes “Eat U Alive” especially thrilling is the element of surprise woven throughout. The slow-burn opening gives almost no indication of the explosive sonic landscape waiting around the corner. And yet, with a title like that, you instinctively know subtlety isn’t exactly the mission statement here. Instead, Lambert leans unapologetically into theatricality, tension and glossy intensity. A move that feels perfectly timed as audiences continue embracing the bold, fully-realised artistic worlds recently reignited by icons Lady Gaga and Madonna.
“‘EAT U ALIVE’ is the perfect primer into my next musical chapter,” says Lambert. “I wanted to create songs that fit into a world reminiscent of the music that made a formative impact on me in the 90s and early 00’s. Nine Inch Nails, Björk, Prince, Muse, Goldfrapp, Daft Punk, George Michael, Massive Attack and the Crystal Method are just a few who inspired the sound.
The album explores both the light and shade of life and the razor’s edge that separates a positive experience from a negative one. I hope these songs connect with anyone who has been through the confusing but necessary process of self-acceptance. There was a real liberation in acknowledging my own weaknesses and strengths. Accepting the bad and the good all together. Revolutionary for someone who always thought of himself as a perfectionist and Idealist.”
With “Eat U Alive” as the opening statement for the “ADAM” era, Lambert is not merely revisiting former glories, however. He is reinterpreting them through the lens of experience, self-awareness and artistic freedom. And from this first exhilarating taste, it sounds like he’s never been more confident in exactly who he is.
To celebrate the album release, Adam Lambert will also embark on a run of intimate live dates across Los Angeles, Brooklyn, London and Berlin this July, giving fans the first opportunity to fully immerse themselves in this newly reawakened sonic universe.
