There will be no mid-week slump on my watch! Keeping those spirits from flagging comes in the form of a euphoric house banger from Glitterbox icon Raven Mandella, who joins forces with Trinidad-born, London-based pop artist Rhian! for “You Lift Me Up”.
And honestly, the title rather says it all. This is an uplifting voice wrapped in a gorgeous house production, carrying a message about positivity, faith, love and the importance of leaning on the people around us. While the track certainly embraces gospel-inspired stylings, “You Lift Me Up” isn’t about overt religious teaching. Instead, it taps into something much more universal: the simple power of human connection and being there for one another.
Raven explains the thinking beautifully: “This higher power sometimes works through the people that we encounter in our lives and surround ourselves with. Being there for one another, we can lift each other up”
What makes this collaboration feel particularly special, though, is that it marks the first time Raven has put their vocals on a recording. Rhian! was clearly blown away by what he heard, describing the experience as a blessing and revealing just how much the vocal performance meant to him
“We live in some really trying times with a lot of negativity portrayed in the media. It’s so easy to dwell on that and get caught up in the doom and gloom. Finding those people around you that lift you up and bring out the best in you is so important. This is the first time that Raven is singing on a record and I feel so blessed that he trusted me with his talent. I was blown away when I heard him sing. This record is so special and I hope people will be inspired by it.” Rhian!
For me, that’s precisely where “You Lift Me Up” finds its charm. Beneath the euphoric house pulse is a reminder to seek out the people who make us feel stronger, brighter and a little more hopeful.
So, if Wednesday is threatening to drag, consider this your musical intervention. Raven Mandella and Rhian! have bottled a little human kindness, added a four-to-the-floor beat and sent it straight to the dancefloor. Now that’s what I call a mid-week pick-me-up!
