What?

Oh man, these guys really rock my Aussie socks off.  Lovers Electric are an Electro/Dance/Alternative pop band from Adelaide, Australia (although recently moved to Sydney).  I must confess, you don’t often hear much about Adelaide on the music front, which only made this discovery the more intriguing.

These guys are cleverly in touch with the good stuff; and it shows in their music as a collection of the best of Euro Pop, Electro Alternative, with *that* sort of Australian sensibility.  You know what I’m talking about don’t you?

At the beginning of 2007, they toured in the United States, followed by a few stints in Europe from May-July 2007 as support for re-formed 80s band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD).  Woo!  5 extra points.

I first caught a glimpse of this dynamic duo last April in Sydney at a songwriter’s summit.  They were one of the guest performers during the end of day drinks and were by far the outstanding act of the night.  Eden, in her cute signature dress and blood red lipstick, sung her little heart out while a playful David rocked the keys and guitar.  Their song "You Got It" finally prompted me to put my Bourbon and Coke down and become all ears.  Charles Fisher (the guy who produced Savage Garden‘s first album) was standing at the table next to me and I think I caught him tapping along.

After the show I asked to be on their e-mailing list and I’ve been keeping tabs on their adventure ever since.  One of the biggest disappointments for me recently was missing out on their tour to Perth, just a few weeks after arriving in Africa.  Oh well… again.

As if they couldn’t do any better in my eyes, they performed for free at the new Sydney Apple Store in September 2008.  As a fan of all things Mac, I think I now know what it is like to be in Heaven.

Lovers ElectricThey have just released their Album "Whatever You Want" and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it.  It buzzes through from scary-infectious pop to the kind of dark electro synth that I resonate particularly well with.

I’d be truly disappointed if nothing comes of this; they deserve a lot of attention.

Here is a video of their song "Honey", which for me, is one of the highlights (although not my fav):

Other must listens include the cant-get-it-out-of-your-head "You Got It" and the emotionally charged "Won’t Give In".  Actually, "Closer" and "Stay Awhile" is pretty up there too.  What the heck, ALL of the album is pretty damned good.

I highly recommend grabbing a copy of this album. *beg beg* You won’t regret it.
