Norwegian alt-pop favourite Moyka clearly isn’t slowing down. Fresh from releasing the stunning “Ultra Violet” EP in May, complete with the emotionally captivating standout “Icarus,” she returns with another irresistible offering. The new single, “Moon,” arrives just as excitement builds around a string of upcoming festival appearances. These include G! Festival in the Faroe Islands this July before heading to Corona Capital in Mexico City with Fauna Primavera in Santiago later this year. Judging by fan reactions after Moyka debuted the song live, an official release was only a matter of time.
While “Ultra Violet” continued Moyka’s gift for exploring the delicate complexities of love, intimacy and human connection. “Moon” digs even deeper into emotional uncertainty. Rather than searching for certainty, it embraces those unsettling moments when life feels directionless and the only option is to keep moving forward until clarity finds you.
“It’s a snapshot of this restlessness I felt in a moment where I felt a bit lost, and tried chasing highs to shake up something within myself. Sometimes all you need is to talk to the moon. She’ll reveal all the answers you have inside yourself”. Moyka reveals.
Listening to “Moon,” it’s immediately obvious why it sits outside the “Ultra Violet“ EP. Sonically. It reaches for something even bigger. The shimmering synth production gradually swells into full anthem territory, allowing Moyka’s delicate yet commanding vocal to soar with renewed confidence. It’s the kind of track that feels equally suited to solitary late-night reflection and a festival crowd singing every word back at her.
As is so often the case in great pop music, heartbreak, uncertainty and vulnerability become fuel for something unexpectedly euphoric. Moyka transforms emotional confusion into empowerment, and nowhere is that more apparent than in the song’s defining refrain:
