It appears rising pop starlet Leah Kate was only whetting our appetite when she dropped the tropically breezy track “LA” last summer. The song though simple and effective. Was a feel-good fun track, built around infectiously incessant motifs with a gorgeously catchy hook to it. It was a song that suited the mood because of the scorcher of a summer we had. There may have been a more purposeful reason behind, Leah Kate chilling beside the pool for the “LA” music video. It may have also been a restful opportunity allowing her to round up some more thoughts born out of personal experiences to turn into new songs. Either way, the young pop artist returns to the spotlight with “WTF?“, the lead single which heads up the release of a forthcoming EP.

Her leading single “WTF?” narrates the familiar story of being ghosted by a crush you were texting. Leah Kate confides…

“I want to remind girls, and anyone not to let someone make you think that YOU did something. Sometimes you have to make light of situations and know that it is not meant to be. Sometimes, you just have to laugh at situations and realise it’s just your ego talking, you probably don’t really give a fuck, be strong.”

Fresh and effervescent, the track is a synth-fuelled rush of colourful melody, playful beats and catchy refrains. Her bright and sparkly soul has a grounded self-assured energy. Ultimately through the track, we learn more about Leah Kate, as an empowered woman, taking matters into her own hands. In the song’s lyrics which stem from her talented mind. The song is memorable, swirls with an upbeat sensibility while being incredibly listenable. I’ve now reviewed two Leah Kate songs. I think I can see a pattern emerging for plotting songs which are both fun to play and listen too. Of the two releases “WTF?” is her punchiest pop moment to date.
