It is nice to have AlunaGeorge firing on all cylinders, filtering out these new and unexpected songs. The release of “I Remember” the sophomore album of last year wasn’t without its hot jams but overall I think it struggled to find its place in the bigger scheme of things. This is why more than anything I’m stoked that the AlunaGeorge are dropping new tunes off-the-cuff and not waiting for them to fit within an album theme or concept.
A week or so ago there was a collaboration floating about “Fake Magic” with Australian production duo Peking Duk (it didn’t go unnoticed!) which struck me as being a little shunt into the mainstream for AlunaGeorge owing to its club sparky grooves. On the whole, I found it to be quite enjoyable if not a tad erring to the generic side of catering to its floor-filling specifications.
I can’t say any of the above applies to AlunaGeorge’s new tune “Turn Up The Love” though. The love themed anthem is nestled back into the care of George’s woozy R’n’B turned, strokes of production which when complemented by Aluna’s soothingly sleek vocal tones present a rousing piece of joyous dance-filled possibilities. These go beyond hitting the mark of just being a club ready banger. This one’s all about spreading the love. The real news is I’m into “Turn Up The Love” and feeling it!
