We’ve known Bossy Love solely as ex Operator Please songstress Amandah Wilkinson but actually the project has been extended some while now with the inclusion of John Baillie Jnr, ex of indie noise pop outfit Dananananaykroyd coming on board to inject some of his quirkily inventive music know-how into the equation.
Now coming out of the reputable and renowned Scottish music scene of Glasgow the duo have been keen to extract their creative juices into a melting pot of genre defying ideas, subsequently manifesting themselves into episodes of wildly fanciful experimental context. A series of such which was birthed via the duo’s self-served mixtape debut ‘Holidates’.
Evident from the “Holidates” release, a keen “R’n’B accent is the mainstay around which Bossy Love now form their vision lead pop ideology. Born from playing with these ideas, the creative pairing have honned out “Want Some”, the new single which really is a little gem of a track, which might however, see itself flying a little under the radar owing to the duo’s organically favoured presentation.
Playing out though, is something which is clearly made of a bigger picture forming in clear intentful bursts of pop swaggering hooks of melody, further a-tuned with a sense of drama and dynamic purpose.
You’d be well advised to turn on some recognition now to what Bossy Love are coming through with. Especially so of “Want Some”. As it’s showing some interesting parallels to early AlunaGeorge albeit twinned with the evocative maverick, alternative pop allure of FEMME, which see’s “Want Some” peppered a touch more to the pop-side of proceedings.
Yet, maybe out of the gate a little early for impacting the summer playlists, which is causing me a tad of internal friction as I feel it would really serve this track its biggest justice.
Amandah and John are off the mark though, with a sunny sound insitu that is an open playground, ripe for future pop experimentation to be gleaned and executed from forthwith.
