There are not many instances I would push back from sharing a track as good as “Tongue” as I have with the latest effort from LA-based independent pop artist Logan Prescott. Pitted against the mightiness of Eurovision is one of those rare occasions that warrant, the biggest music competition in the world takes precedence over everything else. The ESC had its fair share of 80s retro nostalgic offerings this year, which just goes to show the synthy neon era is still in vogue in Europe. Elsewhere, in the world, a fresh new take on 80’s synth-pop in the vein of LANY and, The 1975, is the more preferable choice for discerning electronic-pop fans. This modern approach to synth-pop is the one favoured by singer, songwriter and producer Logan Prescott.
The track “Tongue” is his first release of the year. An evocative, dreamy, effort replete with summery, silky smooth vibes. Captivating in both lyrical and vocal styles reminiscent of Troye Sivan and Lauv, “Tongue” documents the first flush, of excitement we associate with experiencing feelings of new love. The electricity and chemistry combined. The euphoric high, serotonin rush and fluttery butterfly feelings we get at just the mention of our crushes name or when hearing their voice via a telephone call.
The dreamy soundscape tapped into, showcases Prescott’s gently luminous vocals to the fullest. Soul-drenched and earnest lyrics complete the uplifting, feel-good groove of this cute and catchy, summery bop. The way I see it. With its shimmery allure and heartwarming tones “Tongue” is a welcome contender for the best summer offering of the year. Leaving a softer, soothing impression than any of the comparable hands-in-the-air styled festival anthems. A track for the quieter moments of enjoying the summer. When daydreaming and drifting away with our thoughts becomes a new state of mind.
With all that I have learned about Logan Prescott from listening to this track. If I were to make any lasting assumptions about him as an emerging artist, it would be, he is someone who knows where they are going.
