Two months have passed since the Black Lives Matters campaign rapidly evolved into a global movement. We totally still need to be talking about social injustice and racial equality, these important, issues haven’t gone away. Whichever way we can support, educate not just ourselves, but others as well, on these matters does help in making a difference. The more we use our voices to speak out, the better the chances, change occurs. Whatever is our given strength, be it speaking, writing, creating art or even singing, getting the message heard remains of utmost importance at this time. With his recently penned song “Sound of a Voice” indie-pop singer-songwriter Payson Lewis adds his voice to the fight against discrimination and inequality. Pledging to donate 100% of all the proceeds from the release to organisations supporting the Black Lives Matter movement.

The track is strewn with empowering lyrics. The opening narrative poignantly ponders… “Who am I to say anything at all. Never had a reflection that gave me, reason to worry.” A statement which I expect a lot of us haven’t thought about enough, until recently. Payson and Ben Soldate, songwriting, producer collaborator on the track, have not only written from a supportive and educational standpoint. They use the lyrical commentary written from the singer’s perspective to challenge his own awareness of the adversities black people face in their fight for equality and justice.

As the powerful anthem builds to a close, the message sent becomes even more pronounced. “I’m gonna speak out for my sisters. I’m gonna speak out for my brothers. As long as hatred still persists, then it’s on me to get even madder. Come speak out for our future.” Payson imparts.

By diving right into the heart of the matter, “Sound of a Voice” presents itself as a song of our time. We should not only listen to the epoch-making track but as is suggested take action. Be mindful, never to stand still, always move forward. Create change.

100% of all revenue, every penny from every stream, will be donated directly to the following organizations that are making a difference in the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
