The indie electro duo Capital Cities appears to have gotten into the rhythm of releasing the occasional single with little warning. In fact, it was around Halloween last year that they returned with “Skeleton Man,” their first non-collaboration since 2018. However, after the promising comeback, and one further reinterpretation of the track “Nothing Compares 2 U” that arrived this summer. There has not been much progression regarding completely new original material. Only one open-ended hint that maybe another album is on the way.
Without further clarification from either Ryan Merchant or Sebu Simonian. The duo have unleashed not one but two tracks in one fell swoop. A quirky offering, “The Monster In My Closet,” and a shimmering synth-pop track “She Flows Like H2O,” featuring the vocals of LA musician Alex Rzyan.
This is an interesting team-up. Namely since, Rzyan cut her first tracks during the pandemic, switching focus from a fashion career while grabbing a chance to achieve her dream as a music artist. Alex remains an alluring newcomer who is building an active fanbase that has fallen charmed by the instant charismatic presence she creates. As Alex joins Capital Cities on “She Flows Like H2O,” she brings a somewhat sultry edge to the synth-pop track.
On the live performance circuit, Capital Cities remains a notable presence. Especially proving favourable in South America. Yet with the promise of more music on the way. It feels that fans should accordingly be on guard for live dates such as these to ramp up in number, in the near future.
It is worth bearing in mind, that, Capital Cities, are not so frequently updating their social media platforms. Mailing lists and free Downloads, how in keeping with the nostalgic vibes of their music these guys are! I guess they like things old school. I will admit, it rather endears them to me even more.
