2024 has been an extraordinary year for the Pet Shop Boys, as Neil and Chris proudly celebrated the launch of their fifteenth studio album, “Nonetheless.” This remarkable milestone was commemorated with a series of exceptional events. Namely, including an exclusive performance run at the prestigious Royal Opera House and a captivating album playback evening. They also hosted an engaging conversation event in Manchester and thrilled fans with the airing of their insightful “Then and Now” documentary on BBC One. Furthermore, two special cinema screenings of their spectacular “Dreamworld” Greatest Hits Live tour, filmed in Copenhagen, added to the excitement. All of this, coupled with their dynamic live performances, showcases the undeniable impact of their artistry this year.
Get ready for the highly anticipated release of the “Nonetheless Expanded Edition” from Pet Shop Boys, arriving on 22nd November! In the lead-up to this exciting event, they’ve revealed some enticing bonus material that fans won’t want to miss. On 15th November, you can get your hands on a CD featuring a Double A-side single with a fresh edit of “New London Boy” paired with the classic “All the Young Dudes,” written by the legendary David Bowie. Plus, there will be a remix single to elevate your listening experience! (available digitally now).
The album version and new radio edit of “New London Boy” offer an impressive sonic experience, imbued with a weightless musicality that draws listeners in. The evocative atmosphere beautifully complements the reflective narrative, which narrates Neil Tennant’s early days in London. However, I want to shine a light on a remix within this latest PSB collection. The Boy Harsher Remix of “New London Boy” swept me away with its unique electro, dark wave interpretation by the Georgia-raised dark-pop duo. This refreshing take not only captures a nostalgic retro essence. The interpretation also seamlessly aligns with the early 80s sound that defined the vibrant landscape Neil encountered upon his arrival in London in 1981.
While the duo has already celebrated a remarkable lineup of events, their celebration isn’t over yet! Don’t miss the chance to catch Pet Shop Boys at the MTV EMAS in Manchester on 10th November. The show airs live on Channel 5, 10pm in the UK. It’s sure to be an unforgettable experience!
