It’ s been a while since I’ve been alerted to new music offerings from Draper. This is not to say he hasn’t been his usual busy self. I only have to take a glance at his profile page on Spotify to know he has continued to put tracks out with his usual regularity of every few months. 2018, saw the producer further experiment with his production styles. Another exciting development which has happened, he has launched a record label Emprise Records with Achal Dhillon of Killing Moon. This venture not only allows the producer to collaborate with emerging artists, self-releasing his own production works but also sign up new talents under the Emprise banner. The UK producer and multi-instrumentalists latest “Never Say Never” features the vocals of rising pop songstress Hannah Jane Lewis.
Having Hannah Jane Lewis on board for this song is a good move. Her wistful, airy and light, voice transcends above the soft pulses of Draper’s synth dappled, electronic soundscape.
“Never Say Never” was a track that happened so naturally, it was an amazingly creatively smooth process with Hannah,” explains Draper. “Hannah’s vocals are stunning, and the music came together so naturally. It’s the giddiness of being in an exciting new relationship and feeling like you can do anything together.”
The song feels as though it was made for radio, is a lovely shimmery delight. In addition to recent daylight saving changes. The sonically alluring style brings to mind warm days giving an indicative nod that summer is on its way. This kind of uplifting summery anthem is a welcome addition to the pop landscape of 2019. “Never Say Never” is a straight up smash of a tune making use of Draper’s trademark touches and flair his fans have become accustomed to. Hannah Jane Lewis’s silky smooth vocal meets with captivating production that peaks the track in all the right places. The masterful strokes of this track alone are indicative as to why Draper is revered by many!
