Puzzle me this? Why didn’t “Never Let Me Go” the new release from Josh Wantie with Conor Maynard appear on this week’s Spotify’s New Music Friday UK playlist update? Durban-born Wantie currently resides in the UK as does Maynard, which I believe would deem them eligible for inclusion. Spotify may have overlooked the release, but I am not going to do the same, especially when it is bathed in electro beats.
Conor still has a sizeable following into the millions since his meteoric rise to fame in 2012. He moved into providing vocals on dance tracks for a while, before picking back up with unleashing original tracks earlier this year. The singer’s link up with Josh Wantie on “Never Let Me Go” sees the pairing explore pop sensible, dance music. It’s pure and simple as that.
The collaboration comes after years of friendship and writing music together. The production is sleek, top draw stuff. The vocals as you would expect from a pop voice are equal measures of dreamy and soulful. On the downside, it feels a little predictable and all too familiar. Having said that the track is still a good, example of thoughtful electronic dance-pop. In so much, that it wipes the floor with most of the releases placed on this week’s New Music Friday UK on Spotify. And further commits to Conor’s branching out as a collaborator in the EDM world. Give “Never Let Me Go” a music video, let’s see it grow.
