I recently had the fantastic opportunity to catch the British band Blue on their sold-out UK leg of their Greatest Hits Tour at The Regent Theatre in Ipswich. The show featured a captivating set list showcasing Blue’s most notable hits, including “One Love“, “All Rise,” “Fly By II,” and “If You Come Back.” In addition to their own tracks, they also delivered impressive renditions of cover songs such as Stevie Wonder‘s “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” and “This Is How We Do It” by Montell Jordan. The band also shared a newly penned Lee Ryan track, “My City,” which has now released as their new single.

As a band that has been together for more than twenty years. Keeping its original lineup, is somewhat of an anomaly in pop. Yet the truth is Blue still has everything going for them. They are a brotherhood and they still very much enjoy what they do. Included in that, is the writing and recording of new songs. And it’s always super exciting when a new track drops.

Similarly, with “My City,” Blue treats listeners to a good dose of their dreamy vocal harmonising, which remains on point and is powerfully alluring. What I like about Blue is, that they never put anything out, that might be considered sub-par. It’s consistent all the way with them.

Lee wrote the song “My City” intending to delve into the complex emotions that arise when revisiting a place that holds significant personal history. London was the specific city that inspired him, as it was a place he once called home before moving away. This song reflects the profound impact of returning to these meaningful locations, as it evokes a deep sense of nostalgia and belonging, regardless of the time that has elapsed since leaving.

Blue’s plans for 2024 go beyond The Greatest Hits tour. They have a summer filled with festival performances on the agenda. If you catch one of their shows this summer, you won’t be disappointed—I can vouch for that. My experience was Blue continues to impress as a classy pop act.
