Well, I never suspected that for their latest collaboration, The Knocks would team up with the wonderful alt-pop duo Dolores Forever. However, I am equally coloured excited to learn that Hannah and Julia of DF are gaining this type of recognition. Dolores Forever is a band that I have seen perform live at the 2023, Brighten The Corners Festival in my hometown of Ipswich. In fact, they were a stand-out act for me personally. It is also great to see the ladies continuing to build on the success, after performing at Glastonbury last year, by teaming up with the esteemed, dynamic production duo The Knocks.
When listening to the track “Lover” there is obviously a lot of The Knocks, signature production styling that leaps out. And yet, the track also similarly bristles in the jaunty alt-pop flavours favoured by Dolores Forever. The result is a catchy combination of infectious, danceable beats with an overriding breezy, carefree appeal. The track sounds like pure sunshine, with feel-good vibes, beaming with the power to instantly turn a frown upside down.
Dolores Forever explains: “Lover is really an expression of confidence, for when you’re done crying on the dancefloor and just want to have a great time. We wanted it to sound as if Fleetwood Mac and glitter had a baby, and The Knocks really brought that.”
Having enjoyed listening to Dolores Forever tracks, for my own pleasure. I am not so stunned that The Knocks were interested in collaborating with them. As accomplished lyricists, Dolores Forever displays a knack for sharing insightful stories from relatable day-to-day, life situations. Moreover, the duo always leaves listeners, with a cause to smile either because of their witty lyricism or with their danceable signature brand of alluring alt-pop.
Now, they’re ready to release their hotly anticipated debut album, “It’s Nothing” on September 27th. With the shimmering “Lover” preceding the exciting album release, this is evidence of Dolores Forever gaining more ground in the pop sphere.
