How many record label founders, CEO’s and artist managers can you name that also write and record their own music? I think there may only be a few to which this skillset applies. But most prominently, it is the acclaimed Cherrytree Music Company founder and CEO, Martin Kierszenbaum who instantly springs to mind. Although, GRAMMY-nominated Martin assists artists on his roster such as Giordana Angi and Sting (whom he manages), Martin still finds the time to write and record his own music under the pseudonym Cherry Cherry Boom Boom – the endearing nickname Lady Gaga coined. In 2023 under his own name, Martin Kierszenbaum released a self-titled debut album. Jump to now, the focus switches as he releases the self-titled “Cherry Cherry Boom Boom” debut album.
The new album features many of the Cherry Cherry Boom Boom tracks which Martin has unleashed over the years. Namely, “A Little Bit of Love (Can Last for Life)” “One and Only,” “Come Back from San Francisco” and “You’re the Wish” including a few additional cover songs.
Also featured is the brand new track “Instigator” that gets its first airing.
In the track, it feels as though Cherry Cherry Boom Boom is seeking inspiration from a mix of sources. I definitely pick out some 90s-influenced pop-rock stylings pf pop-rock acts such as Smash Mouth, The Rembrandts and Wheatus. The song lyrics, divulge a tale of youthful reminiscent. To a time that was somewhat allowing of an innocent mischievous streak that was peeking up to the surface.
“I used to be an instigator, I’d start some shit for fun. I used to be an instigator, I’m still a little one.”
Cherry Cherry Boom Boom laments of their childhood memories. Moreover, the vibe in keeping the 90s pop-rock in “Instigator,” is such that when listening to the track, I feel the desire to binge-watch a season of the popular situation comedy “Friends” coming on.
