As daylight savings time dictates, we are now officially in the onset of summer. Hurrah! And, so even more than ever, our natural born instincts home in on seeking out the sun. For the majority of us, this will mean taking ourselves off to the beach in respite of our winter-time hibernation cozied-up in our metropolitan concrete jungles for a healthy intake of clean air in our lungs.
Whilst, it is that these kind of leisure time activities go some way to alleviate our day to day stresses of body and mind, an additional booster of summery drenched music is all it takes to uplift and revitalize, bringing some wellbeing responsive, restful aid to our souls.
One particular new band out of many emerging acts, who are the cut of such golden tinged melody making, are of course, Welsh synth-pop trio XY&O who we have met before via tracks “Lights On” and “Fahrenheit”. And if you do more than just glance, an added hint to this comes in their song titles, which each emit a certain degree of radiantly defined thoughts and context.
Just so happens since putting out a few buzz tracks, that Skip, Tudor and Nick are keen to follow-up with another, all prior to imminently ushering in debut EP “Shimmer & Shade”.
Acting as the opener on the EP, “I’m Not Right” offers up sweeping wafts of sonically bottled liquid sunshine. There’s even a special FX layer of gently lapping waves added into the intro and carried on in amongst the synthy undercurrent, to have your mind switched on to all things concerned of being beside the sea.
XY&O do wistfully, dreamy to pop perfection, even when served as a heartbreak song, as “I’m Not Right” seemingly is.
Free up some space on your I-pod if you still own one or follow the guys on Spotify to book your place in the sun with their “Shimmer & Shade” EP coming April 22nd.
