Now is a very good time to circle-back with Pennsylvania-raised producer pluko. After he collaborated with San Francisco based duo Cassette Tapes on the infectious track “used to” (featured on the May 2020 edition of our “This Beat Is Poptronik” playlist.) The new, news is, the talented emerging producer’s new album “COLOR BLIND” releases in a week, on May 29th. I was suitably impressed by the newcomer’s, snapped beats and breezy electronics. That the prospect of an album brimming of the stuff, is one, I am seriously looking forward to sinking my ears, into. Taking us to release day is another dynamite track “Higher” which features vocals from the Australian singer Panama.
Panama has come to be known for using lots of lush and chill grooves, in his own, blending of dreamy electronica. His voice, so soothing and calming is quite a juxtaposition to pluko’s more animated beat-making. When these two artists team-up together, their individual, labours have resulted in a track which beats of exquisiteness and spellbinding charm. “Higher” is such a rush of gentle euphoria. When I put the track on, my experience was as though I was, instantly, sent up into the clouds. It felt so nice, being out of the daily life zone. Unburdened by, cares or worries. Rather than face daily life back on earth, I put the track on looped-repeat. I felt, like, I was being taken to a place, I needed to be at the moment. (A place of, dreamy, bliss and tranquillity.)
If “Higher” were a colour, it would without a doubt be a mellow shade of yellow. As it feels like being warmed up by rays of sunshine. And evokes an outdoor scene, much like a field of sunflowers, softly swaying, creating a sea of golden loveliness. In short, what I am saying is “Higher” feels, like a very special musical moment. And equally, as lovely a way as any to spend a few minutes caught up in daydreaming.
