After releasing a handful of glittery disco bops during the past year or so. You will most probably be aware (at least by the tone of my reviews for “Fingers Crossed” and “24 Hours“). How super excited I am for the arrival of the new album from Sweden’s Agnes Carlsson. And wait for it … the lady herself has confirmed the album “Magic Still Exists” is not many sleeps away. It will be with us on 22nd October. Whoop! Whoop! Leading us to the release, she has shared another slice of disco realness, in the form of “Here Comes The Night“. Where she says…
“Here Comes The Night” is a homage to all of us out there who are longing to just let go. It is a declaration to the dreamers, the night, the mist, the spirituality. Hopefully, it will guide the listener into a moment of something they can call freedom”.
When discussing the previous tracks, I have noticed and made reference to iconic disco tracks “Ma Baker” by Boney M and Madonna’s “Confessions On A Dancefloor“. But on “Here Comes The Night” Agnes is seemingly mining “Gimme Gimme Gimme” by ABBA for inspiration. Speaking of which, had either of ABBA’s come back, tracks “I Still Have Faith In You” or “Don’t Shut Me Down” sounded like what Agnes has done with “Here Comes The Night“. I would have been much more vocally excitable about the whole rebirth of the Swedish Icons. (A personal preference not a criticism).
Nothing she shared has been a miss. I am not someone who gambles or who readily places a bet. With that said, I am erring towards the conclusion that Agnes is about to furnish us with an un-skippable collection of tracks on her album “Magic Still Exists“.
