Some of you might remember. Back in the day in the UK, a forerunner television programme to X Factor the show, Fame Academy. It was, in fact, my favourite of the music reality shows of all. The reason. I loved the concept of a music school environment alongside that of a singing and songwriting competition. Of the show’s successes during its two-series run. Participant David Sneddon subsequently went on to give so much to the songwriting world. Whereas the soulful singer Lemar. Well, he undoubtedly has earned the most success as an established singer above all the rest. (Alex Parks, Alistair Griffin, Ainslie Henderson).

Incredibly it is twenty years since Lemar released “Dedicated,” his certified double-platinum debut album. Celebration is in order. The singer will mark the 20th anniversary with two special shows in Manchester and London in April. (Ticket info here). In addition, he also has new music to share. A new album, “Page In My Heart,” is out on 24th March, but first, the track “Future Love,” is available now.

The song. An 80s funk-inspired effort is so good, worth every bit of the eleven-year wait. A bit of the “I Feel For You” by Chaka Khan vibe is replicated. It is also where he takes the reins fully as an independent artist.

“It doesn’t get more ‘me’ than this musically. The way this album was written and the way it came to fruition, I don’t think it could have been a purer process than this one,” he said.

All in all, because of the song “Future Love” Lemar’s is a comeback that I didn’t know I needed. A song this good makes me hope this blissful 80s funk sound is explored further in the album and also that this triumphant return isn’t the last we hear of him. This new music reminds everyone why they missed him so much.
