Well, he took his time. A new single “Can’t Stay Away” from Darin is out today. The last opportunity we had to write about new music on the blog from Sweden’s Darin (Zanyar) was in 2013!
In fact, up until then, we had been writing about him frequently in the hopes that he would at some point break the UK with his awesome electro-pop offerings. Needless to say, I signed up to his social media accounts and have been following him ever since. To be fair he’s not massively prolific with updating these platforms. It is always a surprise to see a post pop up occasionally and randomly I remember, I am still following him. Two weeks ago he began hinting music was on its way. Shocker. When he dropped the artwork, I could see the title was written in English. (He returned to releasing tracks sung in Swedish only, years ago after setting up his own record label.) Understandably my interest has been piqued for this release. However, I wasn’t prepared for an early press release, dropping into my mailbox from a UK publicist. Does this mean Darin, will be going all out to finally crack the UK market as Raj first suggested in 2009?
Of this English sung comeback track “Can’t Stay Away”. It is best described as sultry disco-pop. It is pretty funky actually, in that it flashes various resemblances style-wise to Michael Jackson’s “Off The Wall” album. The single is co-written by Darin with Jamie Hartman (Kygo, Calvin Harris) and BURNS (Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande ‘Rain on Me’), who also produced the track. While quite different from Darin’s electro bops of the early 2000s “Can’t Stay Away” arrives as an undoubted dancefloor heater.
Darin said: “I wanted to release “Can’t Stay Away’” because it’s happy and uplifting, and that’s something everyone needs to feel right now.”
Absolutely, what he said, after listening to Darin’s big comeback track I am aching to hit the dancefloor.
