How brilliant is this?! Following on from recording a beautiful, emotive version of the Hurts 2010 festive offering “All I Want For Christmas Is New Years Day” (shared as a FREE DOWNLOAD.) Singer-producer Lostchild returns bearing another gift. Coming back off an exciting end to 2019, which saw him complete his first US tour dates and featured in British gay lifestyle publication, Attitude Magazine. Joe Copplestone (Lostchild) has spent a lot of time throughout January, playing around with ideas for new songs. When he’s not been brushing up on his guitar playing skills and sharing clips of his endeavours on Instagram, he’s also been working on some new cover songs. Like putting his own unique, spin on a reimagining of Britney Spears Born To Make You Happy.” (also shared as a FREE DOWNLOAD)

Those familiar with Lostchild’s work will recognise that the rework, features his usual dreamy, lush, signature synths. However, to set this interpretation apart from the many other like for like Britney Spears covers which are in existence. He has taken steps to make his version of the single, lifted from Britney’s debut album “Baby One More Time,” a more personal one.

Explaining –
“Even though it’s not happy. I took the cute and innocent Britney Spears song “Born To Make You Happy” and twisted it into a fatal love letter to drugs. I changed a couple of lyrics.”

The Lostchild repurposed version of the track alters the tone of the original Kristian Lundin / Andreas Michael Carlsson lyrics. Making the former teenage love song, more yearning and complex in the process. Broaching the sensitive subject matter around drug-taking, and dependency, really expose’s vulnerability and the desire to seek an escape. What could have easily been, a very mournful, reimagining. Has instead become an evocative and intoxicating slow jam, because of Lostchild’s dreamy, soulful vocals and future-driven synths. It is a track which has been taken down a darker pop path, for sure. I view it as sad pop which happily doesn’t sound like sad pop at all.
